Theme: Drawn to Pain
'Drawn to Pain' :   Draw a scene that represents 'Pain' from a live action TV show or Movie.   Your drawing can represent physical 'pain', emotional 'pain', or even a 'pain' in the butt!  It can involve any number of characters from your favourite show as long as it represents 'Pain' in some form.   Your artwork can be based on an actual scene from the show or a scene you create using characters from the show.  Here are a couple of examples (from our admin's galleries)...

1.  You must be a member to enter - but it's super easy to become a member... just join!
2.  Entries can be traditional or digital art (no photomanips please) and must be based on a live action TV show or Movie (not animated).

Why did you join deviantART? What do you like best about it?
I joined deviantart because I saw some of my favorite artists on there and I wanted to improve on my own work. Plus, kinda display I guess. I like the people I've met on dA and I've learned so much from this community! And over time, I found new inspirations and friends!
I see you liek Pokemans. Give me a favorite Pokemon from each of the 6 generations. Which other fandoms do you like?
Oh boy this is fun: From the first generation, it's hard to pick but I like Squirtle and  Alakazam! For the secnd generation, I'd have to say Misdreavus and Celebi. Oh gosh, the third generation has so many pokemon I love. I'm going to say Grovyle and Combusken though, aha! The fourth is also another generation I have many favorites.
How to Successfully Finish a Comic or StoryThis issue has been going on a lot lately, especially when the comic that you loved the most from famous artist had to be cut, because of the artist's personal reasons? Well if you want to do a long comic/story these are the most things should be in your mind.
WARNING: THESE ARE FOR THE ONES THAT ARE CREATING A STORY (LITERATURE OR COMIC) THAT IS AT LEAST OVER 100 PAGES.
:bulletblue: If you are doing a long comic, say over 400 pages, you should dedicate 70% of your DA drawings on it. Unless you are pretty sure that you will be one of the artist for SEGA or Archie, then you should.
A lot of people lost their motivation because they didn't have the time to do it as they are preoccupied by commissions and request.

I have decided to hold a contest! The theme will be Ancient Mythology. I love ancient mythology, my favourite probably being Greek but you can choose anything from Norse to Japanese to Aztec. You can even come up with your own!
Any medium is allowed so long as the subject comes under the theme. Whether you create your own immortal in a lit piece or retell a classic story through a picture its all good.
The deadline to upload entries is June 20th. All entries must be new, and need to include a mention of this contest in the artist comments :) Once you're set, note me with a link to your entry and you're good to go :la:

I became a member, actually, because a couple of my friends had set up galleries here. I didn't know of any place before deviantART that allowed me my own gallery space, so that was pretty neat at the time! I was 13, so I just had a small collection of works I'd done with oekaki... so, that's what I posted back then, haha.
2. Of the 8 years you've been here, what is your biggest (and proudest) accomplishment here on deviantART? Like a time when you felt like you were right on top of the world :love:
Let's see... my biggest/proudest accomplishment is actually a recent thing, I think. I'm most proud of having set up #PMD-Explorers as a group. Contest - Draw my OCDo note that this a result from my previous journal entry in which I requested to have a ref done of a new character of mine.
Okay! Since I got several notes / comments from those willing to take my request, I figured I'd give everyone a chance by hosting another Draw my OC contest.
I wasn't planning on hosting another contest for awhile, but this just came out of the blue lol.
Now, before I get into all the details, I just want to point out that this character of mine that I still need to name, doesn't have any refs whatsoever! He's brand spanking new! So instead, you'll have to draw him from my description.. ;v; But don't fret, I'll be using some of my other characters to help you along.

Alright guys!  So I can tell how many of you have been waiting for this contest to come so bad.  I feel your pain, and wanna get this out now!
And now I can finally get the chance to open the contest to the over 50 of you that said they would or may enter.
So here's the contest: Draw any of my OCs doing anything.  Whether it's just a simple pose or what.
-You can include any of your OCs in the drawing too, but as long as it includes any of my OCs, and I didn't request, trade, or commission it, it will be accepted.
-Pay attention to any abilities if necessary.
-Pay attention to details.
-The drawing can include more than one of my OCs if you want.
I will accept all entries until November 4.  By then I will have my 9 judges look at the entries and rate them according to the quality, creativity, etc.

Tutorial Tuesday: PortfoliosSo you want to be a professional artist, and you have an opportunity to show off your art to an editor, or art director.  But you have to put together a portfolio.  First impressions count, so you have to make sure you do this right if you want to be taken seriously.  And you're friend Shono is here to help!
The key is professionalism.  If you want to be taken seriously, you have to look like you take this seriously.  When I first started out my art sucked... really really bad... but I conducted myself very professionally, and presented my art professionally.  So even though my art was terrible, and I was not going to be hired, the editors and publishers I talked to treated me with respect and took me seriously, as they could tell I took it seriously.  In fact many many times an editor, after critiquing my art and telling me why it sucks, commented about how I presented my work..  This was often followed by him giving me his card.  Even thou

After much labor and juggling of priorities, I have finally brought the magazine's first contest up to speed. Also, the contest has been opened up to more images per entry, as well as previously published art. A commenter on the Forum post for the contest had got me thinking, and after a bit of thought I found it only fair to allow previously released work into the contest. It's about the quality of the art, not who had it first, right?

Basically, what you have to do is draw the Alice in Wonderland character(s) with some sort of Spring or Summer theme to it.
